HYBRID Training EXPLAINED…
At Golfer’s Edge, we work with golfers of all levels, looking to achieve a broad range of golf-specific fitness GOALS.
These GOALS include adding distance off the tee, increasing mobility, reducing golf-related pain and improving on-course endurance. Many of our clients also have weight loss goals.
Often our clients are using golf-specific fitness as a way to support a handicap reduction GOAL, be it to break 100, get to single figures or even down to that holy grail of a scratch mark.
Achieving these GOALS requires consistency (multiple workouts per week), discipline, a great plan to follow as well as a large dose of golf-fitness knowledge and expertise.
Currently, golfers wanting to improve their golf-specific fitness have a few options.
1. Got it alone and hope for the best.
2. Find a great Personal Trainer who provides accountability, knowledge, encouragement and expertise. (Hopefully this PT understands the unique fitness needs of golfers!)
3. Download an appropriate ‘app’ or on-line fitness program. This provides an inexpensive ‘plan’ but is it right for YOU?
Let’s explore these options a little more…
THE STANDARD PERSONAL TRAINING MODEL IS BROKEN…
If you’ve had a Personal Trainer in the past, you’ll know that the following things are major impediments to achieving your long-term GOALS:
COST – achieving fitness GOALS requires multiple workouts per week. Do these all with a Personal Trainer and you’re looking at $250-$350 every single week.
SCHEDULING -- Life is busy. Your schedule changes all the time. You travel for work. Face last-minute deadlines at work. And then there are the kids... But miss a workout and your RESULTS suffer. Not to mention that PT cancellation policy!
INCONVENIENCE -- Getting to a PT session almost always means commuting. When it’s 3+ days per week, this time adds up quickly.
FITNESS-ONLY FOCUS -- A great PT will give you a seriously great workout. But do they have the time and systems set up to focus on the other critical puzzle pieces? Nutrition, sleep, mobility, hydration, recovery... Miss these and results suffer.
Online apps are not much better…
Using an Online Program or Fitness App can certainly solve some the issues above.
They are cheaper, provide more workout scheduling flexibility and allow you the convenience of choosing where you do your exercise...
But are they really the ANSWER? Consider these issues:
· FORM — with an Online Program you have no ability to check whether you’re doing the movements correctly or dangerously WRONG!
· NO ASSESSMENT — without a detailed initial assessment / evaluation you can bet your bottom dollar that that workout you are doing is more ‘for the masses’ than it is for YOU.
· NOT INDIVIDUALISED — You deserve a Program built for your body, your level and your goals. Fitness Apps can’t provide this.
· LACK OF SUPPORT — Have a question about your training? With an Online App there’s often nobody to ask...
· NO STRUCTURED PROGRESSION - programs only work until your body becomes accustomed them. Then they need to change. Safe, effective progression requires in-person knowledge & expertise which Apps cannot provide.
Our ‘hybrid model’ could be the fitness solution you are looking for…
The Golfer’s Edge Hybrid Model integrates both online and in-person training to give you the best of both worlds.
All Assessments & 1on1 Sessions both take place in-person, while programs, nutrition & lifestyle guidelines and additional support are delivered online.
This means that your ‘performance plan’ goes far beyond just exercises, sets, and reps.
Think of Golfer’s Edge as your concierge service for your health and wellness. Your fitness is a crucial component, but it’s not the sole focus it might be with standard Personal Training.
how does the ‘hybrid model’ work?
It all starts with a full Golf Fitness Evaluation, inspired by the team at the Titleist Performance Institute (TPI), allowing comparison to PGA Tour norms.
From there a detailed and individualised Program is written and delivered to you online.
Based on the flexibility, stability, strength, power progression model, your personalised program will comprise elements of flexibility and mobility, core strength and stability work, functional golf-specific strength and power training, and balance skills.
1on1 Sessions are scheduled at regular intervals in our cutting-edge studio to:
· Demonstrate how the program works
· Teach new exercises
· Review and correct form
· Adjust and progress weights and reps
· Answer questions, address concerns, clear obstacles, and leave your client feeling confident about the road ahead.
You can expect to receive a Weekly Check-In Email every Monday that serves as both accountability and between-session support.
Complete Reassessments are performed quarterly to check progress towards GOALS, inform program changes & progression and show you how much you have improved!
