Andrew Ransom
As a certified Titleist TPI Fitness Professional, and C.H.E.K Golf Performance Specialist, Andrew specialises in helping golfers of all levels hit the ball further and straighter, shave strokes off their handicap and continue to play the game they love injury free.
Growing up in New Zealand as a sports-mad kid, Andrew represented Wellington in soccer, cricket and tennis before being bitten by the golf bug at age 13. Over the next few years, he reduced his handicap down to single figures with the help of some professional coaching and many hours on the practice putting green.
After finishing high school, he went on to complete degrees in both Law & Economics at Victoria University in Wellington. His legal studies honed his natural skills in analysis and critical thinking.
While studying, Andrew started using the University gym, initially as a way to freshen his body and his mind between lectures. It soon became clear that resistance training had the potential to help Andrew not only look and feel better, and manage stress, but to increase sporting performance as he continued playing golf and social soccer during this time.
Andrew has consistently demonstrated a real passion for sport, health and fitness and in 2009, he decided to move away from his career as a Business Analyst and began to merge his sporting and fitness passions with his work life. He successfully completed Cert III & IV in Fitness and Personal Training at the Australian Institute of Fitness and took up a franchise with Fitness First in Victoria Gardens, Richmond.
Early on in his role at Fitness First Andrew had a major realisation that he needed to upgrade his knowledge and skills beyond those acquired in his Cert III & IV course if he was going to really help people in the way that he wanted to. His education then took on the form of attending multiple workshops on everything from Nutrition to Back Care; from Kettlebells to Client Assessment. The more he learned, the more his passion to contribute to the wellbeing of others grew.
In 2010, Andrew received a lesson from life: a serious back injury that would require considerable rehabilitation. Looking back, the injury was clearly brought on by lack of knowledge and bad training choices. The process of recovery taught Andrew an enormous amount about the physical and psychological challenges involved with injury rehabilitation.
This real world learning compelled him to take on further up-skilling and he developed a real thirst for education. Andrew dedicated the next two years to becoming certified as a C.H.E.K Exercise Coach and C.H.E.K Holistic Lifestyle Coach. He came away from these courses with advanced skills in the analysis of biomechanics, functional anatomy and kinesiology and the ability to take a holistic approach to his clients, treating the body as a whole.
Applying advanced analysis techniques, Andrew combines rehabilitation, corrective exercise, postural correction, proper core training and strength and conditioning with sound nutrition and lifestyle advice into fun, workable programs. His aim is to get clients/golfers to their goals safely whether they seek high-performance, lower scores or simply a return to the game they love after injury. He takes a holistic approach to training and designs practical, individualised programs for clients at their current fitness level.
