Sorry, I got ahead of myself ...

I think I may have got ahead of myself on Tuesday ...

(Remember the Justin Thomas, vertical thrust, lower body POWER TEST email ...?)

I jumped in the deep end of Lower Body Power...

When I really should have walked you down the steps and acclimatised in the shallow end for a while.

So today, a quick back peddle into the shallow end of developing LOWER BODY POWER ...

Bombs away!!!

As I mentioned on Tuesday, the Titleist Performance Institute (TPI) have tested most of the guys who compete in the world long drive champs.

The result ...? Their average vertical jump is over 30 inches.

Which is least 8 inches higher than the PGA Tour's average.

So what is Step 1 in developing incredible LOWER BODY POWER ...?

The Shallow End if you will ...

Well, boring as it may sound, Step 1 is FLEXIBILITY.

Flexibility is the First Step in developing power in any part of the body ...

The lower body is no exception.

Why ...?

Flexibility helps your muscles create more elastic energy, like a rubber band.

If you can't stretch the muscles properly through a full range of motion, then the power created by their speedy contraction becomes reduced ...

There are three key areas that you want to hone in on for Lower Body Mobility:

1-  The Ankles - the main connection to the ground.  Good ankle mobility is crucial to start the lower body power sequence. (Focus on dorsi-flexion and eversion of the ankle.)

2-  The Hips - the hips are where the key power producers live in your body.  Your glutes, adductors, quads and hamstrings all create incredible power in your golf swing.  (Flexibility-wise, focus on hip internal and external rotation and hip extension.)

3-  Pelvic Flexibility / Separation - essential in order to use lower body power, we must be able to separate our lower body from our upper body.  If you don't have the ability to separate your lower body from your torso, then focus on this last.

Confused at all about where to start...?
